About the Role

You will support children and young people aged 10–17 involved with the youth justice system. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will complete assessments, produce reports, and deliver targeted interventions aimed at reducing reoffending and improving outcomes. Confidence in navigating youth justice legislation, courts, and multi-agency work is essential.

What You Will Do

  • Manage a caseload of young people on statutory court orders or out-of-court disposals.

  • Deliver strengths-based, systemic interventions with young people and their families/carers.

  • Prepare Pre-Sentence Reports, court assessments, and AssetPlus assessments.

  • Supervise youth justice interventions in line with national standards and legislation.

  • Collaborate with police, social care, education, health professionals, and courts.

  • Promote a Child First, Trauma-Informed, and Restorative approach.

  • Represent the Youth Offending Team in court and multi-agency meetings.

  • Maintain accurate case records on the Youth Justice Service database.

  • Support strategic priorities including reducing disproportionality and amplifying the child’s voice.

  • Work across community, home, custody, secure settings, and council environments.

  • Stay current with youth justice legislation, safeguarding policy, and best practice.

  • Participate in duty systems, team meetings, supervision, and ongoing training.

Essential Criteria

  • Qualified Social Worker, Probation Officer, or equivalent professional qualification.

  • Significant experience in Youth Justice.

  • Strong understanding of the Crime & Disorder Act 1998 and youth justice legislation.

  • Experience producing statutory reports such as Pre-Sentence Reports and AssetPlus assessments.

  • Skilled in multi-agency working and building positive relationships with young people and families.

  • Knowledge of systemic practice, trauma-informed approaches, strengths-based work, and child-first initiatives.
