Role Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Social Worker to join the Child in Need / Child Protection Team in Macclesfield, Cheshire. This ongoing locum role offers the chance to work within a dynamic and supportive children’s services team while making a meaningful difference to the lives of vulnerable children and families.

Based at Macclesfield Town Hall, you will be part of a dedicated team of five Social Workers supported by a Family Support Worker and a Team Manager. The service manages a wide range of responsibilities including initial referrals, statutory assessments, child protection work, pre-proceedings, and care proceedings.

What You Will Do

  • Respond to initial referrals and undertake comprehensive statutory assessments.

  • Develop and implement effective support plans for children in need and those subject to child protection procedures.

  • Work collaboratively with professionals across multiple agencies to provide coordinated support for families.

  • Attend and contribute to court proceedings, case conferences, and multi-agency meetings.

  • Participate in a duty rota system, providing cover one day per week to manage urgent referrals and immediate safeguarding concerns.

  • Regularly review and evaluate cases to ensure children’s safety, wellbeing, and positive outcomes.

Requirements

  • Social Work England registration.

  • Proven experience within children’s social work, particularly in Child in Need and Child Protection services.

  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation and statutory frameworks related to children and families.

  • Excellent assessment, case management, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and manage a varied caseload.
