Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Social Worker to join the Children’s Assessment Team in Barking & Dagenham. This ongoing locum role offers an excellent hourly rate of £37.52 per hour, with part-time or full-time options and flexible working hours.
Core hours are 9am–5pm, Monday to Friday, however the service offers flexibility around start and finish times. This could include patterns such as 8am–6pm over four days, 8am–4pm, 9am–6pm, and other variations to suit your lifestyle. Part-time working is also considered.
This is a front-line statutory role where you will work with children and families at the point of referral, completing high-quality assessments and taking decisive action to safeguard children.

What You Will Do

Undertake initial and statutory assessments of children and families.

Manage cases through Care Proceedings when required.

Take cases to Initial Child Protection Case Conferences.

Complete assessments using the Single Assessment Framework.

Undertake care planning and provide appropriate signposting to families.

Complete risk assessments and write high-quality reports for conferences and court.

Participate in and contribute to multi-agency case conferences and meetings.

Prepare Section 17 reports and other documentation for Family Court.

Draft initial court statements and apply for Emergency Care Orders where necessary.

Attend court and provide professional evidence.

Undertake home visits to monitor situations and safeguard children.

Chair and contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings to coordinate intervention plans.
Requirements
Essential
-
Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration.

Experience working in a Children’s Assessment / Front Door / Safeguarding Team.

Strong knowledge of Children Act legislation, safeguarding procedures, and care proceedings.

Ability to produce high-quality assessments, reports, and court documentation.

Confident working in fast-paced, high-demand environments.
