Birmingham
permanent, full-time
£85,000 - £90,000 per annum

UK working eligibility only.

We’re excited to be partnered with a major organisation delivering a high-profile, complex infrastructure programme, as they look to appoint an experienced Senior Environment Manager to join their team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an environmental professional who wants to move beyond simply providing technical advice and take a genuine leadership role in delivery. You’ll work closely with the main contractor, providing client-side environmental leadership, assurance and challenge across a significant area of a major construction programme. You’ll be close to the action - getting out on site, undertaking audits and inspections, building relationships with contractor teams and using your environmental expertise and people skills to influence how things are delivered.

With key environmental impact areas including landscape, ecology and wider environmental considerations, you’ll have the opportunity to tackle complex challenges, shape practical solutions and make a visible difference. And importantly, this is a role with real autonomy. You’ll have the freedom to manage your own diary, plan your site activity and decide how best to engage with the delivery team to achieve the right outcomes.

What you'll be doing:

  • Lead Environmental Assurance – Take ownership of environmental assurance across your area, making sure construction activities meet environmental commitments, regulatory requirements and project standards.
  • Influence Contractor Delivery – Build solid relationships with the main contractor, providing constructive challenge and guidance while ensuring environmental requirements are embedded throughout delivery.
  • Get Out on Site – Be close to the work, carrying out audits, inspections and assurance checks, identifying issues and opportunities and making sure environmental standards are being delivered in practice.
  • Solve Complex Challenges – Work alongside engineering, environmental and delivery specialists to develop practical, cost-conscious mitigation strategies across areas such as landscape, ecology and wider environmental impacts.
  • Lead & Coordinate – Manage one environmental professional while collaborating with a broad range of technical specialists, stakeholders and contractor teams to drive excellent environmental performance.

Who they're looking for:

  • Major Project Experience – You'll have experience working in environmental management on a large, complex infrastructure project or programme, ideally within a challenging delivery environment.
  • An Excellent Influencer – People skills are essential. You'll be confident building relationships, influencing contractor teams and senior stakeholders, and challenging constructively when standards or requirements aren't being met.
  • Technical Credibility – You'll have key knowledge of UK environmental legislation and regulatory requirements, alongside the technical expertise to provide credible environmental leadership and assurance.
  • Commercially Minded – You'll understand the realities of major project delivery and be comfortable balancing environmental requirements with cost, programme and engineering considerations to find practical solutions.
  • Autonomous & Delivery-Focused – You'll be someone who takes ownership, manages competing priorities confidently and enjoys being trusted to organise your own time, site activity and stakeholder engagement.
