An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Rehab Officer to join the Visual Impairment Team in Manchester. You will be working within Manchester City Council, supporting adults with visual impairments to maximise their independence, safety, and quality of life through specialist rehabilitation and person-centred intervention.

What You Will Do

Carry out comprehensive, person-centred assessments of functional vision, mobility, daily living skills, communication needs, and environmental safety.

Identify risks, rehabilitation goals, and required support under the Care Act.

Develop tailored rehabilitation plans focusing on mobility, orientation, independent living skills, assistive technology, communication, and environmental adaptation.

Agree clear outcomes with citizens and review progress regularly.

Deliver structured, evidence-based rehabilitation programmes, including:

Cane and mobility training

Orientation and route training
-
Daily living skills

Assistive technology training
-

Adapt training sessions to suit different learning styles and levels of vision.

Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, including OTs, physiotherapists, social workers, health professionals, and external agencies.

Attend MDT meetings and provide specialist sensory input.

Ensure sensory needs are fully embedded within wider care and support plans.

Maintain accurate and timely records in line with statutory and local authority requirements.
Requirements
Essential
-
Qualified Rehabilitation Officer for Visual Impairment (or equivalent recognised qualification).

Experience working with adults with visual or sensory impairments.

Strong understanding of Care Act duties, person-centred practice, and rehabilitation frameworks.

Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
