Procurement Manager
12-Month Contract | Fife | £50,000
We are supporting a well-established FMCG business in Fife with the appointment of a Procurement & Cost Optimisation Manager on an initial 12-month contract, with the potential for the role to become permanent.
This is a brand-new, greenfield position within the business, created to take a strategic look at the organisation's overall procurement and cost base. Reporting directly to the Finance Director, you will have the opportunity to influence how the business manages both its direct and indirect spend, working closely with stakeholders across the organisation to identify savings, improve supplier performance and introduce robust procurement processes and best practices.
This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced procurement professional who enjoys working autonomously, challenging the status quo and building procurement capability from the ground up.
The Role
You will take ownership of reviewing and understanding the company's current spend across both direct and indirect categories, identifying opportunities to reduce costs, improve commercial arrangements and introduce greater procurement control.
As this is a greenfield position, a key element of the role will be creating and embedding procurement best practices, processes and controls that can provide the business with greater visibility, consistency and accountability around expenditure.
Key responsibilities will include:
· Undertaking a comprehensive review and analysis of current direct and indirect spend.
· Identifying and delivering opportunities to reduce costs and improve commercial value.
· Reviewing existing suppliers, contracts, pricing structures and commercial agreements.
· Leading negotiations and renegotiations with key suppliers.
· Developing and implementing procurement best practices, processes and controls across the business.
· Establishing consistent approaches to supplier selection, tendering, negotiation and contract management.
· Identifying opportunities for supplier consolidation, competitive tendering and alternative sourcing.
· Using spend data and analysis to identify areas of potential saving.
· Benchmarking costs and challenging existing commercial arrangements.
· Working closely with internal stakeholders to understand requirements and influence purchasing decisions.
· Building strong relationships with suppliers and managing commercial performance.
· Improving visibility and control over company-wide expenditure.
· Developing procurement policies and procedures where required.
· Tracking and reporting delivered savings and commercial improvements to the Finance Director.
· Helping to establish a longer-term procurement strategy and framework for the business.
About You
We are looking for an experienced procurement professional with a strong commercial mindset and a proven ability to deliver tangible cost savings and process improvements.
You may currently be working within Procurement, Strategic Procurement, Category Management, Purchasing or Commercial and will be comfortable operating across both direct and indirect spend.
You will ideally have:
· Proven procurement experience, ideally within FMCG, manufacturing, food production or a similar environment.
· Experience managing direct and/or indirect spend categories.
· A demonstrable track record of delivering cost savings and commercial improvements.
· Strong supplier negotiation and contract management skills.
· Experience of developing or implementing procurement processes, policies and best practices.
· Excellent analytical and Excel skills, with the ability to interrogate and interpret spend data.
· Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
· The confidence to challenge existing processes and ways of working.
· The ability to work autonomously and make an immediate impact.
· A pragmatic, hands-on approach with the drive to turn analysis into tangible results.
· CIPS qualification or working towards CIPS would be highly desirable.
Why This Role?
This is a genuine opportunity to build a procurement function and best-practice approach from the ground up.
As the first person in this position, you will have the freedom to assess the current procurement landscape, identify where the opportunities are and put the processes, controls and commercial strategies in place to deliver both immediate and sustainable value.
With direct exposure to the Finance Director and senior stakeholders, this role will suit someone who wants to see the direct impact of their work and play a key role in improving the overall commercial performance of the business.
