Purpose of the Role:
The Independent Reviewing Officer is responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children in care. You will ensure that care planning, review processes, and decision-making are timely, effective, and firmly focused on the child’s needs, outcomes, and long-term permanence.

What You Will Do:

Lead Looked After Children (LAC) reviews in line with statutory timescales, ensuring care plans are outcome-focused and child-centred.
Monitor the local authority’s performance in care planning and permanence, promoting timely and appropriate long-term solutions such as fostering or adoption.
Challenge drift and delay in decision-making, escalating concerns where necessary to safeguard children.
Advocate for children’s rights, ensuring their wishes and feelings are central to all care planning and review activity.
Work collaboratively with social workers, foster carers, and partner agencies to promote effective multi-agency practice.
Maintain high-quality records and contribute to audits, reports, and performance monitoring to drive service improvement.
Engage fully in continuous professional development while upholding Social Work England standards and ethical practice.
