Contract Director - Cleaning Services
Location: Field-based
Salary: £80k-£85k
Contract: Full-time, permanent
Travel: Regular UK travel required

Our client, an established facilities management business, is looking for an experienced Contract Director to lead the delivery of cleaning services across a key division.
This is a senior leadership position with responsibility for operational performance, customer relationships, financial results and continued business growth.
The Role
As Contract Director, you will translate the organisation’s strategic objectives into clear operational plans, ensuring contracts are delivered successfully, efficiently and within agreed budgets.
You will oversee the complete contract lifecycle, from tender and mobilisation through to ongoing service delivery and renewal. Building trusted relationships with customers will be central to the role, helping to maintain high service standards and improve contract retention.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Taking overall responsibility for the division’s operational and financial performance
- Managing and delivering the P&L account
- Developing and implementing short, medium and long-term operational plans
- Overseeing the mobilisation of major new contracts, from tender stage through to successful delivery
- Ensuring consistently high standards of cleaning and customer service
- Building strong relationships with customers and central contract-management teams
- Protecting commercial interests while supporting contract retention and renewal
- Identifying opportunities for organic growth and additional service delivery
- Reviewing operational processes and introducing improvements
- Increasing productivity, service quality and cost efficiency
- Establishing and monitoring operational KPIs
- Analysing performance data and providing regular reports to the executive team
- Identifying operational trends, risks and opportunities for improvement
- Ensuring resources are allocated effectively across all contracts
Leadership and People Management
You will lead, coach and support a large remote team of operational managers and supervisors, creating a high-performing and results-focused culture.

- Provide regular feedback, coaching and development
- Support succession planning and talent mapping
- Identify and develop future leaders within the business
- Create a positive environment that encourages open and honest communication
- Remove barriers to effective teamwork

Working Across the Business
Collaboration will be an important part of this position. You will work closely with Finance, Sales, Marketing, HR, QHSE and other operational divisions to ensure activities remain aligned with wider business objectives.
You will lead cross-functional initiatives, share best practice and influence decisionmakers at every level of the organisation.
Key working relationships will include:
- Customers and contract-management teams
- Regional and Site Managers
- On-site operational teams
- The executive leadership team
- Head-office support functions
About You
We are looking for an established operational leader with experience managing large-scale service contracts and geographically dispersed teams.
You will need:
- Senior operational leadership experience within commercial cleaning, facilities management or a similar service-led environment
- Proven experience managing and delivering a P&L account
- Experience managing large, remotely based operational teams
- Strong commercial awareness and financial understanding
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to build trusted relationships with senior customers and stakeholders
- Strong negotiation, influencing and decision-making skills
- Experience leading contract mobilisations and operational change
- A track record of improving processes, productivity and service performance
- The ability to translate long-term objectives into clear, achievable plans
- A results-driven approach with a strong commitment to customer service
- The confidence to manage complex and sensitive situations
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly
