What you will do:

• Perform specialist Microbiology laboratory investigations, ensuring high-quality results.
• Rotate across all sections of the Microbiology department to broaden your skill set.
• Carry out complex diagnostic investigations and validate, interpret, and authorise laboratory results.
• Prioritise workloads efficiently and coordinate the activities of junior staff members.
• Deliver essential Microbiology services as part of the 7-day and on-call team.
• Train and supervise Biomedical Scientists, support staff, and students, sharing your knowledge and expertise.
• Maintain and review Standard Operating Procedures to ensure best practices.
• Engage in quality assurance, EQA, and IQC programmes to uphold high standards.
• Contribute to audits, equipment validation, and ongoing service improvement activities.

Additional Information:

• The position involves working 37.5 hours per week as part of a 7-day service.
• You will participate in an on-call rota and may be required to work out of hours and occasionally lone work.
• HCPC registration and a relevant IBMS Specialist Diploma are required.
• You will also assume deputising responsibilities for Senior Biomedical Scientists.
