Salary- £55,000- £65,000
Shift: Monday- Friday Days
The Role of the Automation Engineer
This is a hands-on Automation Engineer position within a high-volume FMCG manufacturing environment. You will take ownership of site automation systems, supporting, improving and future-proofing PLC-controlled production lines to maximise reliability, efficiency and food safety compliance.
You'll work closely with engineering, production and continuous improvement teams and play a key role in bringing automation capability in-house, with clear scope to progress into leading an automation team as the site continues to grow.
Key Responsibilities for the Automation Engineer
- Maintain and fault-find PLC-controlled systems
- Modify and Program Allan Bradley & Siemen PLCs
- Support HMI and SCADA systems across site
- Diagnose and resolve I/O and industrial network issues
- Assist with commissioning of new machinery and automation upgrades
- Work with OEMs and system integrators on capital and improvement projects
- Ensure compliance with food safety, quality and site standards
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and production
Essential Experience & Skills for the Automation Engineer
- Proven PLC fault-finding and modification experience (programming preferred)
- Strong experience with Allen Bradley and Siemens PLCs
- Background in manufacturing / factory environments (UK experience essential)
- Understanding of control systems, breakdown response and commissioning
- Engineering qualification (electrical, automation or controls)
