Purpose of the job:
Working as a core member of the Youth Justice Service, the Social Worker will manage, plan, and implement the delivery of a diverse range of operational tasks and programmes in Knowsley. The primary objective is to divert children from criminal behaviour. You will work collaboratively with all relevant agencies to assess, manage and review programmes for children in Knowsley who have committed offences.
What you will do:
- Engage directly with children, their families, and victims of crime across various settings including offices, homes, and secure facilities to ensure consistency in the delivery and enforcement of individual criminal orders.
- Represent the Youth Justice Service in court, providing information necessary for appropriate sentencing, including the preparation of court reports.
- Lead on assessment, planning, and intervention delivery for both statutory and non-statutory interventions using Case Management Guidelines.
- Ensure all work undertaken with children, parents, carers, and victims of youth crime aligns with agreed plans to address needs and prevent further offending.
- Coordinate with a range of staff and agencies, including Police, Education, Health, Probation, and Voluntary Sector agencies in delivery of criminal work.
- Supervise children attending community placements and manage outsourced agency involvement.
- Develop community placements for youths, negotiating access to resources across the Borough.
- Jointly run group work focusing on desistance, offending behaviour, and cognitive behavioural therapy.
- Maintain accurate, timely records for monitoring and evaluation purposes.
- Mentor and coach new staff members and support their development within the Youth Justice Service.
