About the Role

We are seeking a prison-cleared Band 6 Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) to join the mental health team at HMP Wandsworth. This full-time role offers the chance to work in a challenging and rewarding environment, delivering high-quality care to patients within the prison system.

You will be responsible for assessing, planning, and providing mental health nursing care, supporting patients with complex needs, and contributing to a safe and effective healthcare environment. This ongoing position provides a structured Monday-to-Friday schedule and the opportunity to develop unique skills in a specialised setting.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, patient-centred mental health care within the prison environment.

  • Conduct assessments, develop care plans, and administer medications and treatments.

  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive healthcare services.

  • Undertake risk assessments and implement management strategies to maintain a safe environment.

  • Mentor and support junior staff, contributing to their professional development.

  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in line with prison regulations and professional standards.

  • Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and service development projects as required.


About You

You will be a registered mental health nurse with current prison clearance and experience in mental health nursing. You should be confident working in a secure environment, with strong clinical, communication, and risk-management skills.

Essential Criteria:

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

  • Current prison clearance to work within HMP Wandsworth.

  • Experience in mental health nursing, ideally within forensic, secure, or community settings.

  • Excellent assessment, care planning, and clinical decision-making skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
