A warm and inclusive primary school in Birmingham is offering an exciting opportunity for a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2025.
This role is particularly well-suited to graduates exploring future careers in Educational or Clinical Psychology, Speech & Language Therapy, or SEN Teaching. As a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who have a range of needs—including autism, ADHD, and speech or communication difficulties—playing a vital role in helping them thrive both academically and socially.
Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant – Key Responsibilities
- Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to children with a variety of SEN profiles
- Assist with and lead targeted interventions for learning, behaviour, or communication development
- Work collaboratively with class teachers, SENCOs, and speech/language specialists to deliver effective strategies
- Help create an inclusive, engaging, and nurturing learning environment
- Adapt classroom tasks and materials to meet individual learning styles and needs
- Support pupils’ emotional wellbeing and promote self-confidence and independence
Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant – Who We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a caring, enthusiastic graduate with a strong foundation in child development and a passion for supporting young learners:
- Minimum 2:1 degree in Psychology or a closely related subject
- Genuine interest in Educational Psychology, Speech & Language Therapy, or working in SEN education
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Patient, empathetic, and proactive in supporting individual needs
- Prior experience with children or young people with SEN (e.g., in schools, care, youth work, or tutoring) – desirable
- Motivation to pursue further study or training in education, therapy, or psychology
