What you will do:

  • Manage and develop a geographically based social work family/adolescent safeguarding team, working to keep children safely within their family structures.
  • Drive strengths-based motivational practices and harness the expertise of multi-disciplinary teams to tackle parental mental health, substance misuse, and domestic abuse.
  • Deliver effective and timely safeguarding services on budget, ensuring compliance with statutory guidelines, policies, and standards.
  • Assess, prioritise, and allocate workloads to ensure safe management of all cases, stepping in directly in exceptional cases to ensure resolution.
  • Ensure meticulous upkeep of social work case records, assessments, and documentation in line with practice standards and organisational policies.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with legal services and family courts to manage Legal Planning Meetings and court proceedings efficiently.
  • Lead purposeful, reflective supervision of social work practice, following parenting and group work programmes to enhance outcomes for children and families.
  • Champion effective communication of organisational issues within the team and foster collaboration across various social work teams and partner organisations.
  • Uphold the Quality Assurance Framework, using performance processes to promote effective service delivery and continual improvement.
  • Engage children, young people, and their families in developing care plans inspired by their views, feelings, and wishes.


The role requires a professional social work qualification and registration, extensive knowledge of relevant policies and legislation, brilliant communication and leadership skills, and an ability to build partnerships with various partners and organisations. Ideally, you will have prior experience working in a UK statutory setting assessing and directing work with children and young people.
