About the Service

Wolverhampton is leading the way in integrated, forward-thinking family support. The SEND Family Help Service evolved from the city’s former Disabled Children and Young Persons Team. Operating within the framework of the Families First for Children Pathfinder, this model ensures families receive proactive and holistic care across sectors. The service places a strong emphasis on early intervention, co-production, and seamless transitions between children’s and adult services.

Your Role: Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing social care team delivering support to children and young people with complex SEND needs.

  • Supervise team performance, ensuring statutory safeguarding duties, risk assessments, and care planning are consistently met.

  • Drive a culture of best practice, learning, and continuous improvement across all aspects of service delivery.

  • Support two Senior Social Workers specialising in children’s interventions and transitions to adulthood.

  • Coordinate with partner agencies in health, education, and care to ensure joined-up, person-centred support.

  • Oversee resource planning, team scheduling, case allocation, and performance appraisals.

  • Report progress, challenges, and service developments to the Service Manager, contributing to strategic planning and innovation.

What We’re Looking For

  • Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.

  • Demonstrated success in managing a children’s or SEND social work team.

  • Strong knowledge of statutory safeguarding procedures, transition planning, and multi-agency collaboration.

  • Excellent leadership, mentoring, and decision-making skills.

  • An innovative thinker with the ability to drive quality improvement in complex disability support services.
