Purpose of the Role
To deliver statutory safeguarding services, ensuring the safety and welfare of children at risk of harm. The role involves undertaking child protection investigations, developing and reviewing care plans, and working directly with children and families to safeguard their wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities

Conduct statutory child protection investigations in line with the Children Act 1989/2004.

Identify risk and need, implementing timely interventions to protect children.

Lead or participate in strategy discussions, child protection conferences, and core group meetings.

Undertake emergency interventions and support care proceedings where required.

Prepare high-quality assessments, risk assessments, care plans, and reports for court and multi-agency meetings.

Manage a caseload of children in need, child protection, and those subject to court proceedings.

Work directly with children, young people, and families to build relationships and understand their experiences.

Collaborate with schools, police, health professionals, and voluntary agencies to ensure coordinated safeguarding.

Maintain accurate case records in accordance with statutory requirements and council policies.

Uphold professional standards, remain registered with Social Work England, and engage in supervision, reflective practice, and CPD.

Promote equality, diversity, and anti-discriminatory practice in all aspects of work.

Contribute to service improvement initiatives through sharing best practice and lessons learned.
