About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Social Worker to join the Locality Service Team within Children’s Services in Wakefield. This ongoing opportunity offers flexible working arrangements, with both part-time and full-time options available.
As a senior practitioner, you will manage complex cases involving children in need, child protection and care proceedings. You will play a key role in safeguarding children and supporting positive outcomes for young people and their families, while also contributing to the development of less experienced colleagues within the team.
Key Responsibilities
Case Management & Safeguarding

Manage a complex caseload including children in need, child protection and care proceedings

Undertake thorough assessments in line with the Children Act 1989

Lead on high-risk and complex safeguarding cases

Develop, implement and review child-centred care plans
Court Work & Reporting

Prepare detailed and analytical reports for Child Protection Conferences and court proceedings

Work collaboratively with legal services in relation to care proceedings
-
Provide professional evidence in court where required
Professional Leadership

Mentor and support newly qualified and junior social workers

Promote reflective practice and high standards of professional conduct

Contribute to team development and continuous improvement initiatives
Multi-Agency Working & Compliance

Engage effectively with partner agencies to enhance outcomes for children and families

Maintain accurate and timely case records in line with statutory guidance

Ensure compliance with safeguarding legislation, data protection and confidentiality standards
Requirements

Social Work England registration
-
Degree or equivalent qualification in Social Work
-
Significant post-qualifying experience within Children’s Social Work
-
Experience managing complex safeguarding and court cases
-
Strong knowledge of the Children Act 1989 and statutory guidance
-
Ability to provide leadership and support within a team setting

Excellent written, analytical and communication skills
