Job Purpose:

As the Practice Development Lead, you’ll be at the forefront of nurturing, innovating, and embedding high-quality, evidence-based practice within social work teams. Partnering with managers, practitioners, and newly qualified social workers (NQSWs), you’ll lead the evolution of professional practice, supervision, and workforce development—ensuring consistent, person-centred, and strengths-based delivery across the service.


What You Will Do:

  • Design, deliver, and evaluate comprehensive practice development programmes for social work teams, NQSWs, and students.

  • Develop and embed tools, frameworks, and guidance to strengthen relationship-based and strengths-focused practice.

  • Collaborate with team managers to identify priorities for improvement and implement reflective interventions.

  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and reflective supervision to support ongoing practitioner development.

  • Facilitate training workshops, group supervision, and practice learning events.

  • Contribute to workforce development strategies to promote continual learning and high performance.

  • Monitor, analyse, and evaluate practice development initiatives to enhance service outcomes.

  • Conduct audits and quality assurance reviews to ensure compliance and consistency in practice.

  • Act as a practice champion, modelling excellence and supporting colleagues to achieve best practice standards.

  • Build strong internal and external partnerships to embed evidence-informed approaches across the service.

  • Support broader strategic priorities by contributing to service planning and long-term workforce strategy.
