Join the dynamic Stroke & Neurological Team in Epping, Essex, as a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist and make a difference in the lives of patients with neurological conditions. This exciting locum position offers an opportunity to earn up to £27 per hour on a part-time basis, working 15 hours per week over a 3-month contract. The role involves flexible working days between Monday and Friday within the Stroke Early Supported Discharge Team. You'll be tackling a varied caseload that includes inpatient, domiciliary, and clinic-based activity, with a focus on stroke rehabilitation.

What you will do

  • Deliver specialist Speech and Language Therapy services for stroke and neurological patients.
  • Assess and diagnose acquired communication disorders.
  • Assess and manage swallowing disorders and dysphagia.
  • Manage an independent caseload of adults with complex communication and swallowing needs.
  • Deliver individual and group therapy interventions.
  • Develop and implement person-centred treatment programmes.
  • Provide advice and therapy programmes to carers and healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary assessments, meetings, and goal setting.
  • Support patients following discharge through community-based rehabilitation.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records, reports, and correspondence.
  • Provide specialist advice and support to junior colleagues.
  • Participate in service development, audit, and clinical governance activities.

Requirements

  • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent.
  • HCPC registration.
  • Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
  • Stroke rehabilitation experience.
  • Neurological Speech and Language Therapy experience.
  • Dysphagia assessment and management experience.
  • Experience managing acquired communication disorders.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Evidence of specialist postgraduate training in dysphagia management.
  • Strong report-writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage an independent caseload.
  • Current driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Desirable Requirements

  • Membership of relevant specialist interest groups or Clinical Excellence Networks.
  • Experience supervising junior staff or students.
  • Experience delivering staff and carer training.
  • Experience undertaking audit and service development projects.
  • Experience within Early Supported Discharge services.
