An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join a busy and dynamic Acute Team in Bristol and Weston. This ongoing role offers excellent flexibility with both part-time and full-time options available, alongside a competitive hourly rate of £26.50. You will work autonomously within an acute hospital setting, delivering high-quality, evidence-based occupational therapy interventions to support patient recovery, independence, and timely discharge.

Job Purpose

To deliver high-quality, patient-centred occupational therapy services within the acute hospital setting. You will independently manage a varied and complex caseload, promoting functional independence, supporting safe and timely discharge, and preventing unnecessary admissions or prolonged hospital stays.


Key Responsibilities

As a Band 6 Occupational Therapist, you will:

  • Undertake comprehensive assessments of patients with complex physical, cognitive, and psychosocial needs.

  • Develop, implement, and review personalised rehabilitation and treatment plans.

  • Assess functional ability, cognition, mobility, and environmental needs.

  • Recommend, arrange, and review appropriate equipment and adaptations to maximise independence.

  • Lead discharge planning, including home visits and risk assessments where required.

  • Provide specialist occupational therapy advice to patients, carers, families, and colleagues.


Multidisciplinary Working

  • Work collaboratively with the Acute MDT, including doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, discharge teams, and social care professionals.

  • Participate in MDT meetings, board rounds, and discharge planning discussions.

  • Liaise with community services, local authorities, and voluntary organisations to ensure seamless transitions of care.


Leadership, Supervision & Education

  • Act as a role model for junior staff, therapy assistants, and students.

  • Provide supervision, support, and teaching to Band 5 Occupational Therapists and students.

  • Contribute to service development, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.


Governance & Professional Practice

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and high-quality clinical documentation in line with Trust standards.

  • Work in accordance with HCPC, RCOT, and Trust policies, identifying and managing clinical risks appropriately.

  • Participate in appraisals, CPD activities, and mandatory training requirements.


Person Specification

Essential:

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy

  • Registration with the HCPC

  • Post-qualifying experience, ideally within an acute or hospital-based setting

  • Ability to manage a complex caseload autonomously

  • Strong clinical reasoning, communication, and organisational skills

Desirable:

  • Experience working within an acute NHS setting

  • Knowledge of discharge-to-assess pathways and intermediate care

  • Experience supervising staff or students

  • Understanding of adult safeguarding and clinical risk management
