What You’ll Need to Be a Progression Mentor:
- Experience working with young people in schools, colleges, alternative or specialist provisions, or PRUs.
- Experience supporting learners with SEND or SEMH, such as Autism, ADHD, Mental Health, and additional needs.
- Confidence delivering one-to-one, pupil-led mentoring.
- A strong understanding of key progression themes: study skills, life skills, healthy living, self-awareness, social skills and career development.
- The ability to engage young people in conversations about their goals, fears, hobbies, and future aspirations.
- Familiarity with local resources, training, and community opportunities.
- Eligibility to live and work in the UK without restrictions.
- An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Children’s barred list only and registered to the DBS Update Service.
Your Key Responsibilities as a Progression Mentor Will Include:
- Delivering tailored one-to-one mentoring sessions focused on study skills, life / social skills, resilience, and career planning.
- Working in person in the learner’s home environment.
- Building trusting relationships with learners and families to engage them in meaningful planning conversations.
- Using resources and tools such as initial assessments, session & progress reports and individual learning plans (ILPs).
- Supporting learners to explore their interests, aspirations, and possible future pathways including education, training, volunteering or employment.
- Encouraging engagement in local community opportunities, and guiding learners towards increased independence.
- Working with parents/carers to embed healthy routines and set appropriate incentives for participation.
- Submitting accurate session and progress reports after each visit.
Note: Mentors do not provide academic tuition, personal care, or medical support. Trips to amenities must be accompanied by a parent/carer.

- Career planning – including CV writing, job searching, and exploring qualifications and pathways.
