Purpose of the Role

Provide leadership and management within the Safeguarding Team, ensuring statutory compliance, high-quality social work practice, and effective support for children, young people, and families. Oversee a team of social workers and practitioners, promoting professional development, performance management, and improved safeguarding outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Line manage a team of social workers and practitioners, providing supervision, support, and performance management.

• Promote reflective practice and professional development within the team.

• Ensure effective workforce planning, resource allocation, and caseload management.

• Oversee complex safeguarding cases, providing guidance and decision-making support.

• Ensure statutory timescales are met for assessments, interventions, and reviews.

• Maintain high standards of social work practice in line with legislation and local policies.

• Lead on safeguarding concerns, ensuring prompt and appropriate interventions.

• Support child protection conferences, strategy meetings, and other multi-agency safeguarding forums.

• Monitor risk and provide professional advice to mitigate harm to children and young people.

• Monitor, evaluate, and report on team performance, service outcomes, and statutory compliance.

• Implement audits, case reviews, and improvement plans as needed.

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with schools, health services, police, voluntary organisations, and other stakeholders.

• Represent the team in senior management and partnership meetings.

Essential Qualifications & Requirements

• Degree in Social Work (or equivalent recognised qualification).

• Registration with Social Work England.

• Substantial post-qualification experience in children’s social care, including safeguarding and child protection.

• Proven experience supervising and managing social work teams.

• In-depth knowledge of the Children Act 1989 & 2004, Working Together to Safeguard Children, and local safeguarding policies.

• Experience leading complex cases, audits, and quality assurance activities.
