We are seeking an experienced and passionate Senior Social Work Practitioner to join our Assessment & Staying Together Team. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a complex caseload, ensuring timely, high-quality interventions for children and families.

  • Conduct in-depth statutory assessments under Sections 17 and 47 of the Children Act 1989.

  • Guide and mentor social workers and students, supporting professional development and fostering a culture of reflective practice.

  • Support decision-making in cases involving child protection, care proceedings, and permanence planning.

  • Lead multi-agency collaboration to deliver holistic, child-centred care and support plans.

  • Prepare and present high-quality court reports and represent the local authority in legal proceedings.

  • Contribute to service improvement, participate in audits, and help embed best practices within the team.

  • Assist in onboarding new staff and help shape a supportive and positive team culture.


Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.

  • Extensive experience in statutory children’s social work, especially in assessment, safeguarding, or family support.

  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation including the Children Act 1989.

  • Skilled in mentoring, case management, and reflective supervision.

  • Confident in court work, risk assessments, and decision-making under pressure.

  • Proactive, organised, and child-focused with excellent communication and leadership skills.
