Key Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day management and supervision of a team of social workers.

• Allocate and monitor workload to ensure safe, efficient, and child-centred service delivery.

• Chair key meetings including case reviews, planning meetings, and strategy discussions.

• Ensure all care planning and interventions align with statutory responsibilities and local policies.

• Lead on performance management, case audits, and service quality assurance processes.

• Represent the team in multi-agency forums, court proceedings, and external panels.

• Manage HR-related responsibilities including staff development, absence, and conduct in line with Council policies.

• Promote and embed best practices including diversity, equity, safeguarding, and trauma-informed care.

• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and service development planning.

• Support the Local Authority’s broader objectives through collaborative leadership and innovation.

Requirements

• Social Work England registered Social Worker.

• Significant post-qualification experience in children’s services, ideally with management or supervisory experience.

• Sound understanding of child protection, care proceedings, and relevant legislation (Children Act 1989, Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018, etc.).

• Proven ability to manage complex caseloads, make decisions under pressure, and drive high standards of practice.

• Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.

• Confident in the use of IT systems and data to monitor team performance.

• A reflective and forward-thinking professional approach.
