What You Will Do

• Hold a caseload of Children in Care, ensuring high-quality care planning and permanency planning.

• Demonstrate a strong understanding of child development and apply safeguarding legislation effectively.

• Complete comprehensive assessments, develop and review care plans, and ensure children’s welfare remains central.

• Manage complex cases and work collaboratively with multi-agency partners.

• Build meaningful, trusting relationships with children, families, carers, and professionals.

• Advocate for children’s best interests in all settings, including court and statutory reviews.

• Prepare high-quality reports for reviews, legal proceedings, and planning meetings.

• Use sound professional judgement, emotional resilience, and problem-solving skills in high-pressure situations.

• Promote equality, diversity, and culturally competent practice.

• Maintain accurate and timely records using the council’s case management systems.

• Engage fully in reflective supervision, training, and continuous professional development.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

• Degree in Social Work (or equivalent) and registered with Social Work England.

• Experience working in Children’s Social Care, particularly with Children in Care.

• Strong knowledge of child development, safeguarding, and relevant legislation.

• Proven ability to manage complex cases and produce high-quality assessments and reports.

• Excellent communication, organisation, and time management skills.

• Commitment to child-centred, strengths-based, and inclusive practice.

Desirable

• Experience working within a Children in Care or Looked After Children team.

• Court work and care planning experience.

• Knowledge of Cornwall Council procedures and systems.
