What You Will Do

Hold a caseload of Children in Care, ensuring high-quality care planning and permanency planning.

Demonstrate a strong understanding of child development and apply safeguarding legislation effectively.

Complete comprehensive assessments, develop and review care plans, and ensure children’s welfare remains central.

Manage complex cases and work collaboratively with multi-agency partners.

Build meaningful, trusting relationships with children, families, carers, and professionals.

Advocate for children’s best interests in all settings, including court and statutory reviews.

Prepare high-quality reports for reviews, legal proceedings, and planning meetings.

Use sound professional judgement, emotional resilience, and problem-solving skills in high-pressure situations.

Promote equality, diversity, and culturally competent practice.

Maintain accurate and timely records using the council’s case management systems.

Engage fully in reflective supervision, training, and continuous professional development.
What We’re Looking For
Essential
-
Degree in Social Work (or equivalent) and registered with Social Work England.

Experience working in Children’s Social Care, particularly with Children in Care.

Strong knowledge of child development, safeguarding, and relevant legislation.

Proven ability to manage complex cases and produce high-quality assessments and reports.

Excellent communication, organisation, and time management skills.

Commitment to child-centred, strengths-based, and inclusive practice.
Desirable
-
Experience working within a Children in Care or Looked After Children team.

Court work and care planning experience.

Knowledge of Cornwall Council procedures and systems.
