Purpose of the Role

To deliver high-quality, child-centred social work practice within the Children Locality Team, focusing on safeguarding, assessment, intervention, and positive outcomes for children, young people, and families through relational, strengths-based practice.


What You Will Do

  • Conduct thorough assessments under the Children Act 1989, managing Child in Need (CIN) and Child Protection (CP) enquiries promptly.

  • Develop outcome-focused, child-centred plans collaboratively with families and multi-agency partners.

  • Manage a varied caseload, including Child in Need, Child Protection, court work, and pre-proceedings.

  • Deliver direct interventions to improve children’s safety, wellbeing, and stability.

  • Identify, evaluate, and act on safeguarding concerns in line with statutory requirements.

  • Participate in strategy meetings, case conferences, and multi-agency planning.

  • Prepare comprehensive statements and care plans for court proceedings, presenting evidence professionally when required.

  • Foster trusting relationships with children and families, supporting positive change.

  • Collaborate effectively with schools, health services, police, and partner agencies.

  • Maintain accurate, timely case records, complying with procedural standards.

  • Engage in regular supervision and professional development to enhance practice.


Person Specification

  • Qualified Social Worker with registration with Social Work England.

  • Significant experience in statutory children’s social care, with the ability to manage complex cases.

  • Strong skills in risk assessment, safeguarding, and multi-agency collaboration.

  • Excellent communication, organisation, and record-keeping abilities.
